I’ve always been interested in history, and after I started blogging I kept finding topics I wanted to blog about.\u00a0 Since my blogging centered around fantasy, historical adventure, and science fiction, I had to stretch things a bit to fit the history topics in.\u00a0 The historical adventure gave me that opening, but the fit was never quite right.<\/p>\n
I was invited to blog at a site called Home of Heroics<\/em>. While the main emphasis of that site was heroics in epic fantasy, sword and sorcery, and mythology, any aspect of heroics as fair game, whether it was fictional or factual. I took advantage of the opportunity to create a column called Dispatches From the Lone Star Front<\/em>. It ran on a quarterly basis.<\/p>\n Unfortunately Home of Heroics<\/em> didn’t last long, but I liked the title and the concept I’d developed. I ran one or two columns at Adventures Fantastic<\/em> when it was still on Blogger, but they really didn’t fit.<\/p>\n When I decided to set up my own website, I knew I had the opportunity resurrect Dispatches From the Lone Star Front<\/em>. I’ve lived in Texas since I was about 2 years old, and there’s a lot of history here. Most of the things I’m going to blog about won’t be the major aspects of Texas history that most people know (or think they do), such as the Alamo, although I will from time to time address more well known topics.<\/p>\n Rather what I hope to look at are the small stories that tend to get lost in the big pictures. Frontiers are conquered by individuals. Their stories still deserve to be told. I’ll tell as many of them as possible here. I’m going to try to visit as many of the places I write about as possible. I’m also going to try to write in depth. Few if any of the posts will be sound bites. Because of this, I’m not going to be writing to a schedule. I’ll try to post every couple of months.
