Announcing The Vampire Stories of Robert Bloch

If you get the Haffner Press newsletter in your inbox, then you already know about this. But if don’t (and why not, I might add), then you’ll want to know.

One of the greatest writers of the macabre in the 20th Century was Robert Bloch.  I’ve written about him before. Like here. And here. And here. While he will probably always be best known as the author of Psycho, Bloch was many other things as well, including but not limited to a master of the short form. a member of the Lovecraft circle, and an accomplished screenwriter.

Haffner Press has announced The Vampire Stories of Robert Bloch.  Tentative publication date is sometime next year. Here’s the table of contents:

“The Feast in the Abbey”
“The Beasts of Barsac”
“The Shambler from the Stars”
“The Opener of the Way”
“The Mannikin”
“A Question of Identity”
“The Cloak”
“Unheavenly Twin”
“Nursemaid to Nightmares”
“Fear Planet”
“Yours Truly, Jack the Ripper”
“Black Barter”
“Death Is a Vampire”
“The Bat Is My Brother”
“The Skull of the Marquis de Sade”
“The Bogey Man Will Get You”
“Tooth or Consequences”
“The Hungry House”
“The Man Who Collected Poe”
“The Light-House”
“I Kiss Your Shadow”
“Dig That Crazy Grave”
“The Sleeping Redheads” aka “Sleeping Beauty”
“Hungarian Rhapsody”
“The Living Dead”
“A Case of the Stubborns”
“The Undead”
“The Yougoslaves”
“The Bedposts of Life”

I love Bloch’s short fiction and can’t wait to, uh, sink my teeth into this book.

And since this announcement isn’t up yet on the Haffner Press website, remember, you heard it here first.

It’s also illustrated by Gahan Wilson, who illustrated one of my favorite Roger Zelazny books A Night in the Lonesome October.

Yeah, I hear you. Quality wise, Haffner Press is one of the best around. Unfortunately the process is quite slow. But it’s a one man operation, so that isn’t surprising.
