FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Voting on the longlists for 2017’s David Gemmell Awards for Fantasy opens at midday (GMT) on Friday 17th February.

The Gemmell Awards enter their ninth year in 2017, once again honouring and celebrating the very finest in epic fantasy.  Named after one of the most popular and influential writers in the field, awards will be presented for best fantasy novel (Legend Award), best fantasy debut (Morningstar Award) and best fantasy cover art (Ravenheart Award).  The awards are decided entirely by public vote.

Voting on the longlists will be open until 31st March, with the shortlisted titles announced on 21st April.  Voting on the shortlists will close on 2nd June.

This year’s presentation ceremony will take place at the Edge-Lit 6 event at QUAD, Derby, on Saturday 15th July.  (http://www.derbyquad.co.uk/film/edge-lit-6.aspx)

2017’s longlists feature no less than eleven past winners, with titles representing more than twenty different publishers from the UK and beyond. The list also takes in authors from all over Europe, North America and Australasia, giving the awards a truly international flavour.

Awards Chair Stan Nicholls said: ‘The longlists for this year, as always, feature a phenomenal amount of high-quality work, and we expect voting to be both very popular and very close.  We’re delighted to have such a great range of work for fantasy fans and readers to choose from.’
