Today, April 30, marks the birth of science fiction and fantasy author Larry Niven (b. 1938). I’ve been away from the house for most of the day, so I’ve not had a chance to read anything by him. Niven was one of the first authors I read when I was getting into science fiction and fantasy, and he’s someone I reread when I get a chance.
So Happy Birthday, Mr. Niven, and many happy returns.
A perfect time to re-read “Bordered in Black,” one of the greatest dark SF stories ever.
An excellent suggestion.
I was just reading tons of Niven pages on tv-tropes. Guess this really means I need to break out Tales from Known Space or Mote in God’s Eye.
I’d recommend his stories about Gil the ARM as well. The tales that mention organlegging are prescient enough to be unnerving.
Happy Birthday, Mr. Niven.
