I dislike the award, and I can’t stand the Scalzi and Beale crowds. I pretty much have no interest in the fiction chosen by either side. I, on the other hand, love Black Gate, Castalia House’s blog, and Morgan Holmes. All are much worthier of an award than so much of the dull or sanctimonious crap that does win. That BG has never been nominated before last year only confirms the insularity of the award.

You’re right about the award having become so insular. I’m going to try to ignore all the hoopla this year, although I suspect it will be something like a train wreck. At some point I’m not going to be able to look away. Until I can’t ignore it, I’m going to focus on reading as much good fiction as I can while trying to write a little of my own.
