Those Lazy Hazy Crazy Days of Summer

No, I’m not referring to the song.  Just an update on what you can expect to see here at the ol’ blog.

First, I had attempted to read the nominees for the David Gemmell Morningstar Award.  This goes to best first fantasy novel. I’ve read two (reviewed here and here).  I’m almost finished with Kings of the Wyld.  I’ll review it.  I decided a few days ago that it would be insane to try and push myself to finish the remaining two.  I have copies and will read/review them at some point in the future.  Right now I want to focus on shorter fiction as well as getting back to reading more Jack Williamson.

I also want to read some Robert E. Howard.  Howard Days starts in less than a week.  I’m really looking forward to it, even though I think there have been more triple digit temperature days in the last few weeks than not.

I’m not teaching Summer I, so I should have a more flexible schedule.  That means I can get some writing done.  That’s all I’ll say about that for now.

What are the rest of you up this summer.

    My summer plans. Hmmm.

-Edit/polish horror novel #1 in the month of June for submission to JournalStone open call in July.
-Outline next novel. Write next novel (Jun-Sep.)
    -Family vacation, Maine coast (beach.)
    -NECON! (http://campnecon.com/)
-A few family fun days are set in the calendar.
-At the workplace, I need to learn some new technologies. (hopefully, on the job and not take up private reading time)
    -Reading

It’s winter this side of the world. Nothing planned but finalizing the bar exam here and finding a balance between getting used to practicing law again and writing stories without alienating my family in the process. And reading. Always lots and lots of reading.

Going to a writing retreat in June, which will hopefully spur me to getting writing back up in the priority list for July-September. Which won’t be easy, as I’ve got to do an estate sale for my parents’ house, and then get the house repaired, and then get the house sold.

I’m hoping to make an appearance at SoonerCon in Norman in June, and ArmadilloCon in August.

I’ve got HFQ work to do (issue #37 out in July, potential Patreon campaign and/or another kickstarter campaign).

I also need to get my own house in order, go through all the closets and bookshelves and the attic and get rid of stuff (partially because I now have all this extra stuff from my parents’ house!)

Sounds like a busy summer. I probably won’t make Armadillocon this year for a variety of reasons. And I hear you about clearing out stuff. I am out of shelf space and my wife made me promise to clear out my closet. Good luck with all of that.

Thanks. It was great. I wish you could have been there. I’ll post a full report in the next day or two.
