I’m Thankful for Poul Anderson

Happy Thanksgiving, everyone. One of the things I’m thankful for today is Poul Anderson (1926-2001). It being his birthday (November 25), and all.

For today’s post, a few days ago I had decided to review Anderson’s “Son of the Sword”. It’s a straight historical adventure set in Egypt. Anderson did from time to time write historical adventure without any fantastic elements. This is one of those stories.

I didn’t do my due diligence on this one. “Son of the Sword” was originally published in 1951 in Adventure Magazine. The only reprinting was in A Light in the Void, back in 1991. It was this book where I read it. The copyright page in the book didn’t give any further detail than what I stated above, and the ISFDB on lists A Light in the Void under the story’s publication history.  If I had realized that, I would have found a different story to feature today. Happy Thanksgiving, 2020

As much as this year has really sucked, I still have a lot to be thankful for. Family. Friends. People who read my blog. Employment. Health. The list goes on.

So here’s wishing all of you a happy Thanksgiving.

As much as it’s pandemically possible, may your day be filled with friends and family, food, and gratitude.

Happy Thanksgiving

Here in the States, it’s Thanksgiving, the annual holiday for, well, showing gratitude.

What, you thought I would go for the cheap joke and say “giving thanks”? Puh-lease. Even I won’t go fruit that low-hanging.

Thanksgiving is the fourth Thursday in November, which puts it late this year, and shortening the Christmas shopping season by something like six days. I would be fine with that if we haven’t been inundated by Christmas commercials and hype for the last two weeks.

But I digress. Here are a few things I’m thankful for. Continue reading

Happy Thanksgiving

loony tunes thanksgivingI’d like to take a moment to wish everyone a happy Thanksgiving.  This year has been hectic, with a lot of life getting in the way of blogging, reading, and writing.  But I’m still here and not planning on going anywhere, even if my productivity is not as high as it has been in the past.  I’m thankful to each and every one of you who reads these posts and follows me on Twitter.  May your day be filled with family, friends, food, and thankfulness regardless of whether you celebrate this holiday or not.

Happy Thanksgiving

armed turkey I just wanted to wish everyone a happy Thanksgiving.  May it be full of fun, food, family, and joy.

As I’ve grown older, I’ve become more aware of the role of gratitude in my life, and particularly my need for it.  When I focus on what I have and on God’s blessings, I find it easier to have a balanced outlook.  When I look at things through a lens of thankfulness, I have a better perspective on the small irritations and disappointments.

Some of the things I’m thankful for:

My family.

Employment.

The readers of this blog and the friendships I’ve made through it.

That I live in the greatest country in the history of the world.

The freedoms that come with living in the US.

Laughter.

Happy Thanksgiving

Free HD WallpapersHappy Thanksgiving to everyone in the States or around the world who is observing the holiday.

Among the things I’m thankful for are all the people who follow this blog or my others, as well as everyone who reads my posts at Amazing Stories or Black Gate.  It’s nice having a platform to share my thoughts and engage in discussions about sword and sorcery, fantasy in general, science fiction, historical fiction, mystery and noir, and history.  Even if I haven’t had time this semester to post as much as I’d hoped.

I hope all of you have a great day, whether you’re celebrating the holiday or not.
